Mega Play On Shivaji Maharaj’s Life To Be Staged On Large Scale For The First Time In London
For the first time in the UK, Shivaji – The People’s King [Jaanta Raja (in Hindi)] – the famous theatrical biopic depicting the events in the life of King Shivaji, will be coming to the SSE Arena in Wembley for two shows on 20 and 21 June.
The world premiere of this theatrical show will be staged with the large entourage of aprox., 200 artists, horses and camels that will perform at the indoor stadium on a specially designed colossal around 30-feet-high revolving multi-dimensional stage. The stage depicts the massive replica of Shaniwarwada – the seat of the Maratha Empire. This show has clocked an audience of 15 million over its 1001 shows until now.
“The set for the show will be shipped from Mumbai to London,” says Shantanu Shukdevkar, who along with Dhairyashil Patil from India and UK-based Chetan Harpale is organizing the epic drama with the support of Pune based Maharaja Shiv Chatrapati Pratishthan Trust.
“While the main characters will travel from India we will need local talent to perform British/Indian characters in the play,” says Patil.
The play, written and directed by renowned historian Babasaheb Purandare, celebrates landmark moments in the life of Shivaji from the joy of his birth to the tragic death of his father, the martial arts practised by young Shivaji, his guerrilla army and his grand coronation ceremony.
