The reasons for performing Shree Laxminarayan Yagna on water are 2 fold.

  1. To remind us about our roots and values - Going back to the times before the universe was created, according to our Vedas, there was only cosmic ocean – nara meaning water. Vishnu is said to be this cosmic ocean nara and that is why he is known as Narayana or “one who resides on the water”.

Goddess Laxmi, who married Lord Vishnu, was born from the ocean during Samudra Manthan or churning of the ocean of milk. The churning of the ocean shows us how to maintain harmony between material and spiritual life, by placing unshakable faith in our creator.

  2. To mark the importance of water – Hindus believe in the five elements of nature (panchamahabutas) earth, water, fire, air and sky. The water is the building block of life and symbolises physical and spiritual purification. Water is medium for holiness and sanctity yet it has qualities that symbolises humility. Humility like water is a sustainer of spiritual values, which in turn nurtures inner and outer peace.  Water sustains life by connecting nations, people and all life forms without discrimination promoting the message of peace and prosperity.
