How to thrive in a challenging economy - Lecture on 28th June

Dada Vaswani's biography is briefed here. Dada as he is affectionately known, celebrated his 90th birthday on 2nd August 2008. His 90th birthday celebrations continue. As a mark of Dada attaining this memorable milestone, the Sadhu Vaswani Centre UK donated funds to the KK Eye Institute (part of the Sadhu Vaswani Medical Complex, Pune) for the performance of 900 eye procedures for the needy in India. The eye campaign championed by Dada – “Sight for the Sightless” has benefitted several thousand poor rural folk - adivasis, dalits, farmers, tribals, woodcutters, shepherds and landless labourers all earning meagre daily wages. As they age, they become blind and sadly they continue to live with their blindness. High levels of illiteracy coupled with the fact that they are unable to afford even the basic necessities of life prevent them from seeking this simple cure of eye surgery. But, it doesn’t have to be this way as a vast majority of this blindness can be prevented or treated.

“Service of the poor is worship of God” – Sadhu Vaswani

Dada Jashan does not accept gifts. How can we endow a gift upon this noble and selfless soul who does nothing else but give – he never tires of giving, the more we seek the more he gives! Many a time he gives without us seeking! How do we repay this debt? The members of the managing committee of the Sadhu Vaswani Centre UK hit upon the idea of obtaining names of at least 90 individuals who will abstain from all foods of violence i.e. pledge to become vegetarian – the pledge can be for one week, one month, one year or forever. The names of these individuals will be offered as a gift to Dada as a mark of respect for the ideals and teachings that he stands for. May I humbly request you to canvass members of your organisation and provide me with the names of those willing to pledge to this worthy cause which is mutually propagated by us. This gift will be presented to Dada on 28th June 2009 at the Sangam Centre.

The economic events of the last year or so have affected so many of us. We have lost our jobs, our savings have been depleted and our pension pots diminished. The financial maelstrom has touched us all. I would like to take this opportunity of inviting you and your family to attend this function and to bless us with your presence. Please see attached invitation.

To encourage the principles of non-violence and Reverence for all Life the Sadhu Vaswani Centre UK will hold a “Vegetarian Food Festival – Dada Mela” on Sunday, 5th July 2009 – details as per attached invitation. This will be a fun filled day with vegetarian food being served from all parts of the globe and other activities to augment the event and provide good cheer.
